Conference Presentation Developing e-care pathways for the 21st century Health Information Systems
Abstract:
Hospital notes present an age old problem : they are often confusing, there is considerable duplication of information and large of forms may mean tat key information could be lost. There is an inability with exchange systems to easily obtain quantitative and qualitative data.
As a mean to improve this situation, care pathways are a modern solution.
Care pathways are multidisciplinary process of patient focused care. They set out assessment, tasks and interventions that should occur in a timely fashion, To produce the best prescribed outcomes.
In the same vein, development of this care pathway electronically, breaks new ground in providing clinicians and managers alike, in the ability to create assessment tools, like audit and risk management that reflect the most up to date methods and practice as well as tools that suit there own clinical practice.
This functionally provides electronic decision support system by in-built evidence based medicine, reduces clinician time spent on documenting patient examinations, reduces the need for patients to be asked the same question repeatedly by different clinicians and provides greater access to up to the minute clinical data.
This paper outlines the concept, and benefits of care pathways, and their electronic transformation for the very first time in India.
