Conference Presentation DEVELOPING GUIDELINES AND AUDITS FOR BETTER CLINICAL OUTCOMES IN OBSTETRIC AND GYNECOLOGY PRACTICES.
Introduction-
Obstetric care of high quality continues to be a key requirement for reducing maternal mortality. Clearly the Urgency of and the means for improving obstetric care very enormously between the industrialized countries, where less than 1% of maternal deaths occur each year, and the developing countries, where more then 99% occur. Audit can play a dual role : not only can it monitor change in the support of clinically effective practices.
Aims and Objectives :--
What is the concept of audit and guidelines.
What impact audit has brought about throughout the word- three case studies.
Establishing the need for developing guidelines and performing regular audits.
Materials and Methods:--
Literature review.
Results- Proven better clinical outcomes.
Study1-“ Evidence of a continuing commitment to improve the quality of care at the four participating hospitals was reflected in the staffs’ intention to repeat the audit cycle until their targets were met, and to extend the process to others clinical specialties.”
Study2-“ Use of standardized management guidelines and practice of evidence-based obstetrics would definitely go a long way in balancing the rates of caesarean section.”
Study3- “ There was a 25% lower risk of dying within a year after discharge if hospitals followed national guidelines and taught their patients how to follow those standards at home and in another-for every 105 increase in adherence, mortality fell by 11%."
