Clinical Risk Management
The Harvard Medical Practice study found that:
" Over 80% of negligence claims are brought in cases in which there is no injury and no negligence. Only less than 2% of negligence injuries lead to claims. "
Therefore by putting the right systems in place, hospitals and doctors can rebut allegations of negligence in 80% of cases and successfully argue that no compensation payment be made. The aims of CRM are to (a) Reduce the frequency of adverse events in the hospital, (b) Reduce the chance of a claim being made, (c) Control the cost of claims that are made. It is done by risk identification, risk analysis and risk control.
